Police in Vernon seek information on suspect in robbery, assault
VERNON, B.C. — Police are looking for tips to identify a suspect in an attempted robbery of a woman in Vernon last month.
“On Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m., a woman had parked her vehicle in the parking lot located near 35th Avenue and 34th Street (near the Recreation Centre),” Cpl. Tania Finn said. “When attending to a nearby building, she discovered the door locked. As she was leaving the area, an unknown male grabbed her arm demanding money.”
Police say the robbery attempt was unsuccessful, but the 60-year-old woman was assaulted and managed to avoid injury. The suspect fled on foot with another man.
“The woman was very fortunate to escape injury and was determined to continue on with her evening,” Finn said. “It was only upon reflection did she realize the seriousness of the incident and reported it to police the following day. As the investigation is ongoing, the woman continues to receive support from the RCMP Victim Services Section; however, the search for the suspect continues.”
