WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A 26-year-old Williams Lake man was arrested Monday morning (Feb.17) following a standoff with police.

North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says it all started just prior to midnight on Sunday (Feb.16) when the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a report of a person involved in a dispute on Midnight Avenue in Williams Lake. She says the suspect was identified and later located in the 700 block of 11th Avenue.

“Upon the officer attending the residence, the suspect was observed exiting the residence with a firearm and pointing it toward a vehicle with an occupant in the immediate area,” says Saunderson.

“The officer engaged the suspect, who fled back into the residence. Throughout the morning of Feb.17th, officers had three individuals removed from the residence for safety and continued to attempt to negotiate with the suspect.”

She says at approximately 2:15 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody without incident and notes the home was secured and says a firearm was recovered.

The suspect, Dylan Marcel Lulua, has been charged with pointing a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Saunderson says Lulua made a court appearance and has been released on strict conditions.

“The Williams Lake RCMP continue to focus on the compliance and enforcement of these conditions attached to the accused. There were no injuries to the public. The RCMP would like to thank the community for cooperating and remaining out of the area throughout the incident,” she adds.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Williams Lake RCMP at (250)392-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
