Weather looks dry for Kamloops this weekend, snowy on the Coquihalla

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says the weather will favour those who spend the long weekend in Kamloops.

Forecaster Bobby Sekhon says Kamloops will see some precipitation overnight, but most of the weekend will be mild and dry.

“Overall, the temperatures look pretty decent. We’re looking at a high of +5 on Saturday, +4 on Sunday and +6 on Monday, and Sunday and Monday are looking fairly dry,” said Sekhon.

The highways leading to the Lower Mainland will be another story. Sekhon says the highest elevations of the Coquihalla Highway will see a lot of snowfall.

“We’ll see snow throughout most of the weekend and even today, on Friday, we can expect two to four centimetres and another five to 10 centimetres tonight,” said Sekhon. “Saturday, again, another 10 centimetres. So we’ll see snow pretty consistently through Sunday.”

The southbound lanes of the Coquihalla were closed between Merritt and Hope for hours Friday (Feb. 14) after a semi truck overturned.

Sekhon says those who choose not to travel south will have the best weekend, weather-wise.

“In through the Interior valleys, it looks a lot better in terms of weather than it does for those high-elevation highways. Definitely, if you heading toward the coast especially, just make sure you check the latest forecast and Drive BC for the latest weather conditions.”
