KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: RCMP say they flooded a Lower Sahali neighbourhood Friday afternoon (Feb. 14) after a man reportedly pulled a weapon on a store’s Loss Prevention Officer (LPO).

WATCH:

According to a news release from Staff Sgt. Sascha Fesenko, police were initially called by the LPO, who said he had confronted a man who had stolen merchandise from the store.

When the LPO tried to get the items back, the suspect is alleged to have threatened him with a weapon.

A responding officer found a man matching the suspect’s description and, when the officer informed him he was under arrest, he took off on foot.

That’s when Mounties descended on the area near Columbia Street West, Pemberton Terrace and Greenstone Drive, setting up a perimeter.

The man was eventually arrested in a backyard of a home on Greenstone Drive.

RCMP say the man, who is well known to police, is facing charges of theft under $5,000, assault with a weapon and resisting arrest. He is slated to appear before a judge Saturday.
