SURREY — A man who was shot by an RCMP officer in Salmon Arm three years ago has been charged for alleged involvement in a Surrey counterfeit currency ring.

Kaymen Winter, 25, is facing nine charges after RCMP raided a Surrey home on January 23.

The raid came two weeks after officers were alerted to reports of more than $5,000 in fake U.S. dollars being circulated in the Newton area of Surrey.

Investigators were led to a home in Surrey, where they found $12,000 more counterfeit U.S. bills, $120 in counterfeit Canadian money and equipment used to produce counterfeit currency.

According to a Surrey RCMP news release, they also found “numerous knives and replica firearms.”

In addition to Kaymen Winter, three others are facing charges — 25-year-old Tassie Winter, 32-year-old Mitchell Coubrough and 33-year-old Terita Herbert.

On January 30, 2017, Kaymen Winter was shot multiple times by an RCMP officer responding to a coin box break-in at the Xcalibur Kawasaki and Carwash in Salmon Arm.

The officer said he believed his partner was in danger when Winter drove toward him.

Winter suffered several injuries, including a gunshot wound to his head.

The Independent Investigations Office looked into the incident and concluded the Mountie did not act improperly by firing on Winter.
