Westsyde Pool to close for six weeks during Phase Two of retrofit

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops will be moving forward with the next phase of renovations at Westsyde Pool this spring.

The original retrofit project began in 2016, and City contractors will soon be finishing up Phase Two of the Westsyde updates before the Canada Games Aquatic Centre closes for its own renovation project.

During construction, the City says the pool will be closed for six weeks from March 23 until May 11.

Through construction, the fitness area and change rooms will still be accessible to the public but there won’t be any swimming programs running.

The Westsyde Pool roof was rebuilt and other improvements were made to the facility as part of Phase One in 2016. At this time, there were plans to also retrofit the building’s HVAC and pool boiler systems later on. Four years later, a complete replacement of the HVAC, mechanical and dehumidification systems at the pool are needed, and new acoustic panels will be added inside to reduce sound levels.

During construction, Westsyde Pool users have two options for membership — they can either cancel their pass for a pro-rated refund or keep the pass active and use the gym. Westsyde memberships will also be accepted at the TCC to use those facilities during the closure.

After Westsyde Pool reopens in May, it will have extended hours starting on June 29 to make up for displaced TCC pool users.
