KAMLOOPS — The first City of Kamloops satisfaction survey in three years has found an overall contentedness from Kamloops residents.

Results from the 2019 survey, which canvassed 400 residents by phone, were presented by Forum Research at this week’s regular council meeting.

Ninety-five per cent of respondents said their quality of life is good or very good and 70 per cent said their quality of life had either stayed the same or improved over the past three years.

The lead factors that respondents appreciated about Kamloops were good weather, proximity to green space – and the people.

Forum’s William Schatten says the results showed people in Kamloops love their city more than residents in comparable BC cities.

“Ultimately, the survey reflects very positively on the City of Kamloops and the services you provide. You are receiving very quality-of-life scores and far more people are willing to promote Kamloops than not,” said Schatten.

The survey listed three main areas where local residents would like to see improvement from the City: alternative forms of transportation, communication and public engagement, and by-law enforcement.

It finds road and sidewalk maintenance as the most commonly-named issue facing the community, followed by homelessness and crime.
