RCMP point to speed in poor conditions after crash that killed two near Barriere

BARRIERE, B.C. — RCMP investigators believe driving too fast for conditions resulted in a crash that killed two men north of Barriere Wednesday (Feb. 5).

The crash between a car and a semi truck took place around 12:00 noon Wednesday, on the Yellowhead Highway near Darfield.

RCMP E-Division Traffic Services spokesman Cpl. Mike Halskov says two men in their 30s, both from the Central Interior, died in the crash.

Both men were in the car. The driver of the semi truck was treated for minor injuries.

Halskov says witnesses told investigators the car lost control and spun into the oncoming lane and the pathway of the semi.

Highway conditions at the time were described as compact snow and ice with limited visibility.

The B.C. Coroners Service will conduct a toxicology test to determine if driver impairment can be ruled out as a factor.

Any further witnesses or anyone else with information into the crash is asked to contact RCMP in Clearwater at (250) 674-2237.
