Kamloops RCMP looking for owners of coin collections

KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are asking for the public’s help in finding the owners of three separate coin collections.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says since August 2018 there have been three incidents where coins have been seized in Kamloops, the latest being December 2019.

Shelkie says in two of the instances, the coins were found in stolen vehicles but didn’t belong to the registered owners. The third set of coins was seized from a “problem residence” during a search warrant.

Shelkie says in total there are hundreds of coins.

In both of the recovered stolen vehicles, coins held in two-by-two holders were discovered — some with descriptions and values but none with the owner’s identity.

“We have tried to find the owners but so far have been unsuccessful,” says Shelkie. “We’ve researched our database of stolen and lost items, but it’s very limited without serial numbers or names. There is nothing to tie the coins to an owner; sometimes, people will steal things that also have some identification with it, but not in any of these cases. We’ve even had an article published on a Canadian coin collector online site with no luck.”

Anyone with information about the owners of these coins is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000.
