Second WolfPack swimmer qualifies for Olympic trials.

KAMLOOP — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack will have two swimmers competing at the Olympic Trials later this Spring in Toronto, Ontario.

Matthew Gauthier (3^rd year, Sylvan Lake, AB) reached a qualifying time in the 50 breast stroke at the PSW Winter Invitational meet this weekend in White Rock, BC. Gauthier swam the distance in a split time of 31.1.

He will join teammate Ryley McRae (2^nd year, Kamloops, BC) in his quest to make the Olympic team at the trials March 30-April 5^th. McRae will be swimming in four events at those trials: 1500 , 800 and 400 meter free style and 200 meter butterfly.

Both Gauthier and McRae won medals at the PSW meet.

McRae won two silver medals (400 meter free and 100 meter butterfly). Gauthier won a silver medal in the 100 free and two bronze medals in the 50 meter free and the 100 meter breast.

The WolfPack had one other medal winner: Tyler Gauthier (3^rd year, Sylvan Lake, AB) won a bronze in the 200 meter butterfly. Thompson Rivers finished in 11^th place in the team competition.

Next up for the WolfPack will be the U SPORTS Swim Nationals beginning February 22nd in Victoria, BC.
