REVELSTOKE, B.C. — One person is dead after a crash between a semi-truck and pickup truck on Trans Canada Highway east of Revelstoke.

Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky says in a news release that officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle fatal crash at roughly 7:40 p.m. Monday (Jan. 20).

Ambulance, fire crews and RCMP arrived to find an eastbound semi-truck and westbound pickup truck had crashed.

The driver of the pickup was dead at the scene, and the driver of the semi-truck was taken to hospital with “serious neck and back injuries”.

Grabinsky says investigators determined the passenger truck had hit another semi-truck roughly one kilometre earlier, and then went head on into the second vehicle.

He adds alcohol may have been a factor. Witnesses attempted first aid on the Alberta driver.

“Road conditions were rated as ‘good winter driving’ with temperatures at approximately -5 C with clear roads, and excellent visibility,” Grabinsky says. “The Trans Canada Highway was closed until the investigation was concluded and the vehicles could be removed from the road by a local towing company.”

The road was fully re-opened by roughly 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
