WolfPack Swim Team makes medal haul in Kelowna

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack swim team launched the 2020 portion of their spring season with a huge haul of medals.

The Pack were competing in the 2020 Kelowna Snow Fest swim meet in Kelowna, BC this weekend. Thompson Rivers finished sixth out of the 15 teams who were competing. The TRU men were fifth overall while the WolfPack women wound up 8 th. There were 332 swimmers from throughout BC, Alberta and Washington State competing.

Among the individual performances, Ryley McRae (2nd year, Kamloops, BC) won no less than seven medals. Six of them were gold. He won the 400 meter IM,200 meter fly, 100 meter free, 100 meter fly, 50 fly and the 800 freestyle event. McRae’s other medal was a bronze in the 50 meter fly.

Leading the women’s team for Thompson Rivers was Emily DaGasso (2nd year, Kamloops, BC). She won three bronze medals in the 200 meter IM, 100 meter free and 50 meter back stroke.

Other medal winners for Thompson Rivers were Matt Gauthier (3rd year, Sylvan Lake, AB) who won a bronze in the 100 meter backstroke. Mickayla Hitchins (2nd year, Nanaimo, BC) won a silver in the 200 meter breast stroke. Ben Nichols (1st year, Port Coquitlam, BC) captured silver in the 100 meter back stroke.

“I was extremely pleased with how our team did,” stated WolfPack head coach Brad Dalke. “We are in the middle of nour competition season and are following up a holiday training camp in California. This puts us into a good position as we head to the PAC SeaWolf meet on the coast in two weeks.”

The WolfPack will have a number of swimmers competing later in February in Victoria, BC-the site of the 2020 USPORTS swim nationals.
