CFJC Today recognizes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Doesn’t look like a big deal., does it?

Now watch this one…

To me, this was a huge deal. I was petrified. There are 5 more videos just like it where I don’t jump. I walk away mad, embarrassed and frustrated.

I know that I can do it. I know it is safe. I know it’s irrational. I watch person after person jump in, climb back up and do it again. I watch older people and young children. I know it will be fine but my legs are quivering, my heart is racing and head is pounding.

Finally, as you can see, I jump, I survive and so appreciate that the strangers around me have rallied to support me.

What I want to point out is that normally you would only see the first video of people accomplishing something; the FB post, the performance, the final paper, the degree, the positive, happy ending. This is what we see in others. It looks easy, simple, like no big deal.

Rarely do see that it was a big deal. We don’t see their sweat, panic, all-nighters, imposter ‘syndroming’, unsureness, bitten nails, insecurities, doubt, helplessness, fright etc. etc. etc.

In my experience, wild emotions and feelings are often lurking in the background somewhere, haunting and taunting, poking and prodding. Yanking you away from what needs to be done.

Hopefully, with some encouragement, some bravery and a whole lot of faith, we make the jump and even if we get a nose full of water – we can be proud of overcoming our obstacles and growing a little more on the inside!

What do you need to do now?

Who can you ask for support from?
