LYTTON, B.C. — Police say two people safely escaped from a home before a police-involved shooting in Lytton left one man dead.

In a news release, RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet confirms that police notified the Independent Investigations Office of yesterday’s incident (Jan. 13).

Just before 8:00 a.m. Monday, officers were called to a home in the 1000-block of McIntyre Road in Lytton for a report of a man in distress.

The man was believed to have firearms. Two other people were inside the home with him.

Shortly after officers arrived, Shoihet says, there was a report of gunfire coming from the home, but no one was injured.

The Emergency Response Team, including a crisis negotiator, were called in to help. The two people that were inside the home were taken to safety while the “distraught man” remained inside and negotiations continued.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m., an “interaction between the man and police resulted in shots being fired by police,” Shoihet says in the news release.

The man was shot and died. No one else was injured.
