KAMLOOPS — With several centimetres of snow dumped throughout Kamloops overnight, emergency responders are reminding drivers to be extra cautious on the roads.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Captain Troy Grant says early last night (Jan. 11), crews were called out to a couple of serious vehicle incidents while the snow was coming down.

“It’s another snowy day, roads are incredibly slippery again today (Jan. 12). We’ve responded to a couple of accidents already,” He says, “Just a reminder to keep your distances, slow down, and be ultra-alert of conditions.”

Environment Canada has issued a blowing snow advisory, and a wind warning for the South Thompson region today, which is expected to last until this evening.

That warning pairs with the alert put out yesterday regarding the bitterly cold air and temperature drop anticipated for the North and South Thompson regions, along with the Fraser Canyon, and Cariboo.

There are also several highways to keep an eye on, with snowfall warnings in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, Merritt to Kamloops, and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.

Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected on those routes.
