RCMP arrest woman, allege she used garage door openers to break into Juniper Ridge homes

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a 41-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly using a garage door opener to break into a Juniper Ridge home.

Early Wednesday morning (Jan. 8), a Juniper Heights resident was awoken by his home’s alarm system.

As he checked his home, he found his garage door open and saw a woman walking out of the area.

Responding officers tracked a suspect down and found two garage door openers on her, as well as household items.

Officers believe she took the garage door openers from parked vehicles and used them to get into the homes, where she stole the homeowners’ possessions.

As a result, RCMP are reminding homeowners that it’s best not to store garage door openers inside their vehicles.

“It is a frightening experience to know a thief has been in your home, let alone one being in your home while you and your family are inside asleep,” commented Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in a news release. “Always removed all valuables, including the overhead garage door opener, from your vehicle.”
