Sub-tropical storm to bring rain, very mild temperatures to Kamloops this week

KAMLOOPS — Forecaster Bobby Sekhon says precipitation will arrive as rain today and tonight in Kamloops.

“What that means for the Kamloops area is essentially, we’re going to see some rain early this evening which should taper off overnight. However, the snow level is close enough that we’ll actually have snow over the higher terrain in the South Thompson area,” Sekhon told CFJC Today.

Local residents will notice the biggest change Friday, when Sekhon says temperatures promise to be well above normal.

“Tomorrow mainly just looks windy and warm. So we’ll get easterly winds kicking up tomorrow afternoon from 40 gusting to 60-kilometres-an-hour and then highs of near nine degrees above zero. That’s 10 degrees above average for this time of year,” said Sekhon.

“Considering where the origin of the air is coming from — the Tropics — it’s not that surprising that we’ll see temperatures climb this high,” he added. “However, it is quite a bit warmer than it normally is in Kamloops this time of year.”

Sekhon adds the mild weather is expected to stick around into the weekend.

“Closer to mid-next week is when we might start to rebound closer to the average temperatures for this time of year,” notes Sekhon. “But for the next several days, it’s not going to be quite as warm as tomorrow afternoon is, but we’ll stay above normal.”
