RCMP encourage pre-planning before celebrating the New Year

KAMLOOPS — RCMP are reminding Kamloops residents to plan ahead before celebrating the New Year.

Staff Sgt. Vic Steinhammer encourages people to utilize designated driving services like Operation Red Nose, or take a taxi or public transit.

He says many organized events have already thought ahead on behalf of their guests.

“They’re looking after the rides home, which are generally really well done. Kamloops falls right in line with that,” Steinhammer said. “Having worked last year, New Year’s Eve, I was so impressed with what Kamloops did, and the organizers.”

RCMP plan to have more officers out tonight, watching for impaired drivers.

Steinhammer says road conditions could be hazardous after the rain and snow today.

“Give yourself more distance to stop and slow down and for the people walking on the roads and crossing, remember everything is going to be a little bit slippery, so for everybody, please take it easy.”
