Heavy snowfall leading to chaos on Interior highways

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: The Yellowhead Highway is back open at Barriere, according to Drive BC.

EARLIER: Highways around the Kamloops area are slick Tuesday after a combination of rain and heavy snow overnight and through the morning.

According to Drive BC, the Yellowhead Highway is closed in both directions at Barriere because of a crash.

A detour is available via Barriere Town Road.

It’s not known when the highway will re-open or if anyone was hurt in the collision.

Meantime, Twitter user @kamloopsian1 says trucks are getting stuck on the Trans Canada Highway as they try to navigate the hill just east of Chase.

The snow is piling up as plows try to keep up with the heavy snowfall.

Drivers are warned to use extra caution if they need to be out and about.
