‘Abnormally normal’ weather rounds out quiet year for Kamloops area

KAMLOOPS — There’s only a couple of days left before 2020 begins, and according to Environment Canada, it appears 2019 was not a particularly remarkable year for weather trends in the Kamloops region.

Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says Environment Canada is still crunching the numbers for the year, but 2019 is looking ‘abnormally’ normal for Kamloops.

“Precipitation- when we finally add the numbers up is going to be really close to average, and temperature couldn’t be closer to average.”

When the final numbers come in, Lundquist figures the temperatures will be within a fraction of a degree off the average.

“So it was almost boring, but in my opinion one of the best years ever because summer was so beautiful, and so far winter has been pretty easy on us.”

As far as any significant weather events, Lundquist says the region didn’t have much to write home about in 2019.

“We didn’t have all those disastrous fires that we did over the last couple of years, and summer turned out really quite quiet for us,” he says, “We didn’t have any major severe weather. There was always something up the Chilcotin that caused a bit of rain and some flooding there, but compared to the prior years, it was pretty good for us.”
