Highways a mess- watch for closures and delays
KAMLOOPS — As of 8:00 AM Friday morning, 56 centimeters of snow had already fallen on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, and it’s only going to get worse over the next 24 hours.
The Coquihalla was closed for several hours and was still closed in the northbound lanes north of Hope as of 8:00 AM because of accidents. The Hope-Princeton Highway is also shut down because of an accident for several hours overnight because of an accident. No indication as of 8:00 AM as to when it might reopen. The Trans Canada is closed until 1:00 PM Friday afternoon between Revelstoke and Golden for avalanche control.
Heavy snowfall and winter storm warnings are in effect until at least noon Saturday. Heavy snow has already fallen on most routes and motorists are warned of travel advisories that could cause shutdowns or delays.
