MERRITT, B.C. — UPDATE: Several of the highways have since been reopened but travel advisories remain in place.

EARLIER: Multiple vehicle incidents and hazardous winter weather has led to closures along three major highways connecting the Southern Interior to the Lower Mainland.

Heading into one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, the Coquihalla Highway is closed northbound between Hope and Merritt due to a vehicle incident.

A travel advisory is in place for the highway due to heavy snow and limited visibility.

Highway 1 is closed in both directions west of Jackass Mountain Summit due to a rockslide. It’s also closed from Revelstoke to the Alberta border due to avalanche work.

Highway 3 is closed in both directions due to a crash between Allison Pass and Manning Park.

Global News reports that at least one person has died after a crash on Highway 3 near the Paulson Bridge in the Kootenays.

According to Environment Canada, 56 centimetres of snow fell on the Coquihalla Highway by this morning (Dec. 20).
