Celine’s Shoe Game

Cline Dion’s shoe game is on fire.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Dion stood in front of her decorated Christmas tree wearing fierce, fiery pumps that look ready to take flight.

Created by Toronto set designer Caitlin Doherty and commissioned by Scotiabank Arena, her shoes appear to be covered in strips of orange, red and yellow paper to resemble flames; a fiery phoenix also adorns the heel of the right shoe.

Titled “Courage,” after Dion’s latest studio album, the wearable art piece is intended as “a tribute to Cline Dion and an artistic expression of her passion for fashion and a metaphor that represents her journey,” according to an accompanying placard. “The symbolism … resembles themes both Cline Dion and a Phoenix have in common, transformation and rebirth.”

But some of Dion’s social media followers didn’t seem to grasp the symbolism behind her stilettos, comparing the shoes to “chicken fire boots,” and “a turkey escaping the fire.”
