Students filled with community appreciation at seventh annual NorKam Christmas Luncheon

KAMLOOPS — Students at NorKam Senior Secondary enjoyed a full turkey dinner during lunch hour today — courtesy of many hours put in by volunteers and staff.

Today marked seven years of the annual Christmas meal. NorKam Principal Jonathan Brady says organizers who feed the 850 students and get everyone seated together in the gym have the event management down to a science.

“So we’ll have about 60 volunteers enter our school today to help out. The preparation started last Thursday with bringing the turkeys in, cooking started on Monday,” Brady explains. “I think in terms of the culture of NorKam, people get to come and see what our student body is like, and how appreciative our student body is of this dinner.”

Between today’s lunch, and tomorrow’s meal at AE Perry Elementary School, about 1,100 students will be fed through the efforts of volunteers and the community.

NorKam students look forward to the yearly tradition, and the work put in to make it happen does not go unnoticed by the grateful students.
