Province issues load restriction reminder after loaded logging truck spotted on Red Bridge

KAMLOOPS — BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is reminding heavy commercial vehicles to pay attention to regulations after the latest example of an illegal crossing over the Red Bridge.

Twitter user Naranjita Dulce shared a brief video Thursday (Dec. 12) of a fully-loaded logging truck crossing the narrow wooden bridge that connects Kamloops with the Tk’emlups Reserve.

WATCH:

The bridge has a four-tonne weight limit and a 30-kilometres-per-hour speed limit. In an email to CFJC Today, a ministry spokesperson says it is illegal for a loaded logging truck to traverse the bridge.

The ministry says signage is clearly posted in both directions leading up to the bridge. In 2018, the ministry installed two additional advanced warning signs along Mount Paul Way warning of the restrictions.

The spokesperson says Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) officers patrol the route around the bridge regularly and will investigate the incident shown in the video. If it can determine which company’s truck is shown, the company will be subject to a fine.

Anyone who witnessed the logging truck crossing the bridge Thursday is asked to call CVSE at 1 (888) 775-8785.
