Salvation Army looking for volunteers to man kettles until Christmas Eve

KAMLOOPS — The Salvation Army is about halfway to its annual kettle campaign goal, but it’s in desperate need of volunteers.

The non-profit is short of people to man some of the kettles around the city. It’s reaching out to the community, looking for anyone who can help out with a couple hours of their time.

“We recognize if we’re not present, then people don’t have the same opportunity to give,” said captain Kelly Fifield. “So we have 149 shifts that are still left between now and Christmas Eve need to get filled. They’re two-hour shifts, each one of them, so it’s not a long time.”

The Salvation Army has raised $175,000 of its $350,000 goal. In addition to needing volunteers to man the kettles, they’re hoping others will donate and fill the kettles, or which ever way they’d like.

“If you’ve had that opportunity to be connected with us before, have seen the work that we do in the community, then we encourage you to please step up, write a cheque, put some cash in the kettles,” said captain Cory Fifield. “You can give us a call here at our office at 554-1611 and you can make a donation right over the phone.”

The kettle campaign wraps up on Christmas Eve, but the Christmas campaign doesn’t end until Dec. 31.
