WESTWOLD, B.C. — A man and woman arrested near Westwold Tuesday have formally been charged with three counts of attempting to murder police officers.

Darwyn Allen Curtis Sellers, born in 1988, and Jennifer Patricia Singleton, born in 1981, appeared in Vernon Provincial Court this morning (Dec. 5) and were remanded in custody until later this week.

Police say a car involved in a suspicious vehicle complaint failed to stop at a roadblock Tuesday in Falkland, and shots were allegedly fired at officers as the vehicle fled.

Two suspects were later taken into custody in a field east of Westwold.

The B.C. Prosecution Service confirmed to Vernon Matters the charges against Sellars and Singleton stem from events that occurred on or about December 3, 2019, at or near Falkland.

“Both individuals are now charged with three counts of attempt to murder police officers using a firearm and with one count of flight from police. Mr. Sellars is also charged with a related firearms possession offence,” said Dan McLaughlin, communications counsel.

McLaughlin says both of the accused are in custody pending a bail hearing.

“Ms. Singleton is next scheduled to appear on December 6. I do not have a new date for Mr. Sellars,” he told Vernon Matters.

Court documents show Sellers is also facing charges of breach of probation and driving while prohibited in Williams Lake, and for breach of probation in Abbotsford.
