STAR WARS CLIP CELEBRATES LEGACY: During ABC‘s The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration on Thursday evening, fans got a glimpse of the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The three-and-a-half-minute clip showed behind-the-scenes footage from the Lucasfilm archives, with vintage shots of Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. Director J.J. Abrams weighed in, saying: “If you’re a kid watching this 100 years from now, 500 years from now, you see this inevitability, the story conclude in a way that feels thrilling, and shocking, and funny, and emotional and satisfying.” Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases Dec. 20.
FIRST PROMO FOR GOLDEN GLOBES DROPS: The first commercial for the 77th Golden Globes ceremony has dropped, and Ricky Gervais is promising fireworks. In it, he is seen chatting with a member of the crew: “Hi, I’m Ricky Gervais, and I’m hosting the Golden Globes,” then sprays the camera and offstage with champagne. “You never know what he’s going to do,” a narrator says as the Golden Globes title card appears. This will be Gervais’ fifth time hosting. The Golden Globes will take place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and air live on NBC on Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
ALI WONG REALLY LOVES VR: Standup comedian Ali Wong recently participated in Baobab Studio‘s interactive virtual reality movie Bonfire, in which she voices a robot sidekick of the explorer. She told Variety: “I’ve seen a lot of the publicity surrounding VR over the years and think it’s an exciting new medium, though my exposure was minimal. My husband is a gamer, so I’ve tried VR out with him, but that’s all I had going into Bonfire.” She added: “Give VR a try. It’s like Marijuana. It’s the future!”
HBO MAX SNAGS RIGHTS TO WHITE HOUSE FARM: HBO Max has picked up the U.S. rights to British crime drama White House Farm, starring The Irishman‘s Stephen Graham and Black 47‘s Freddie Fox. The six-part series explores the family saga and contested accounts of events that took place at White House Farm, where a murder went down.
