Kamloops resident has vehicle stolen while warming up car; Police warn residents to be vigilant
KAMLOOPS — After a local resident had their vehicle stolen while warming it up, police are urging drivers to be cautious this winter.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that the owner had left their vehicle running in their driveway to warm it up, but it was stolen soon after.
“Kamloops RCMP officers have noticed a number of vehicles that have been left unattended in the process of warming them up – whether they’re going to work, or just heading out,” Shelkie says. “This is the time of year that we see more and more ‘warm-up thefts’ occurring.”
She adds that most of these stolen vehicles are taken from driveways, gas stations, or convenience stores while people run in to grab an item and leave their car running.
