TWO POPES LEADS GROWN-UP AWARDS: Fernando Meirelles‘ Two Popes, starring Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict and Jonathan Pryce as Pope Francis has earned the top slot for AARP The Magazine’s 19th Annual Movies for Grownups Awards. The film will get a limited theatrical release November 27th and will stream on Netflix December 20th. In all, Two Popes earned eight nominations. Films with six noms included Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and The Irishman. Marriage Story grabbed five. Tony Danza will host the event, scheduled for Jan. 11 at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills.
DAVID ATTENBOROUGH, SHAILEEN WOODLEY, RICHARD BRANSON IN FOR ENVIRO CAMPAIGN: BBC presenter David Attenborough is joined by Divergent actress Shailene Woodley and Richard Branson in 30×30, an environmental film about global-scale, man-made climate disasters affecting the oceans. “If we don’t take action, the collapse of our civilizations and the extinction of much of the natural world is on the horizon,” says Attenborough. “If we don’t act now, the damage we’re causing will be irreversible. But there is hope, if the ocean is one thing, it’s resilient,” adds Woodley.
BET RENEWS FIRST WIVES CLUB: BET Networks‘ SVOD service has ordered a second season of First Wives Club, starring Ryan Michelle Bathe, Jill Scott and Michelle Buteau. The show was developed by Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver. The show is set in NYC and, like the movie, follows women who come together after their marriages fall apart.
HUGH GRANT TO REFLECT IN BBC TWO DOCUMENTARY: Hugh Grant, the star of A Very English Scandal and Notting Hill, is set to reflect on his career in a special BBC Two documentary. The film will chart his rise from starting out in The Jockeys of Norfolk to his breakthrough Four Weddings and a Funeral, through his current career. Friends and colleagues, including Andie MacDowell, Richard Curtis, Sandra Bullock and Colin Firth, will share their experiences as well.
