Blazers rally to knock off the Oil Kings

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers rallied from two goals down to defeat the Edmonton Oil Kings in a battle of division leaders.

After Logan Stankoven gave Kamloops a 1-0 lead 2:25 into the first, Edmonton scored goals a minute and 39 seconds apart.

HIGHLIGHTS: Blazers score four unanswered to win 5-3

First by Ethan McIndoe on the power play, and then Jake Neighbours.

Five minutes into the second David Kope scored on a breakaway and Edmonton was ahead 3-1.

Just over two minutes later Montana Onyebuchi scored out of s scramble for the Blazers.

With six minutes left in the second Max Martin took a pass from Josh Pillar and beat Oil Kings netminder Todd Scott.

3-3 going to the third Brodi Stuart scored his third of the season, deflecting a Quinn Schmiemann point shot on the power play. Josh Pillar picked up his third assist of the game.

The Oil Kings pulled Scott with under two minute left, and Stankoven put the stamp on it with an empty net goal from his own side of centre.

The Blazers win 5-3 and open up a three point division lead over Kelowna.

Another of the leagues top team, the Portland Winterhawks, are here for games Friday and Saturday.
