KAMLOOPS — There is still time to find some festive threads and register for Brennan’s Ugly Sweater Run, happening Sunday at the West Highlands Community Centre.

The event, which is in its third year, raises money for the Boys and Girls Club’s Power Start Program.

Payton Comazzetto started the run in honour of her brother, Brennan, who was struck and killed by a vehicle in 1999 at the age of 10.

“His favourite time of year was Christmas,” Comazzetto said. “When I was trying to figure out what to do for an event for him I got inspired through my service-learning course where I was coaching running, so that was something that I loved. So, I combined it with his love of Christmas. And then, my mom used to dress us up in these pretty beautiful, she would like me to make sure I’m saying beautiful, Christmas outfits for Santa, and so hence the ugly sweater emerged.”

Comazzetto says the run has grown exponentially since its first year.

This year there is more than $11,000 worth of prizes to be won.

“People can still register, we’re accepting registrations up until race day,” Comazzetto said. “But, if you want to be eligible for those $11,000 in prizes then you need to register by November 29, so this Friday.”

You can find more information about registering for the event here.
