ROTHENBURGER: Cry babies who talk about splitting up the country should just shut up

KAMLOOPS — I’M SICK OF HEARING from the cry babies on the other side of the Rockies who want to bust up our country.

At a rally in Calgary last weekend, Wexit leader Peter Downing declared plans to run candidates in provincial, federal and even municipal elections.

This, in the wake of meetings held by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with several provincial and federal leaders that focused on the unity issue. Meetings from which nobody emerged very happy.

For example, Conservative leader Andrew Scheer talked about “a very real crisis” over national unity.

The center of disaffection is in Alberta, where Premier Jason Kenney describes the re-election of the Liberals as a “hostile situation.”

OK, so Alberta didn’t get its way in the federal election. Boo hoo.

An independent Alberta surviving without the rest of Canada is a scenario that’s almost too laughable for words.

In case the separation advocates who live in the middle haven’t noticed, they kind of need the rest of the country to get from one place to another with their pipelines.

We’re all Canadians first. Most Albertans know that. In the end, the good of the whole is what’s most important. Just because one province doesn’t like the outcome of a federal election it can’t just pick up its marbles and go home.

While Kenney says he doesn’t share separatist sentiments, he talks about withdrawing Alberta from the Canada Pension Plan, kicking out the RCMP and setting up a provincial Alberta police force, and complaining about equalization.

Let’s be clear about who’s to blame for this Wexit blather. The only ones guilty spreading disunity are those who keep talking about it.

There’s a simple way to fix that — just shut up. Please.
