KIBIHT announces schedule for 2020 tournament as Thompson Blazers look to defend title
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament (KIBIHT) is still six weeks out, but the teams in both divisions of the tournament have been announced with Kamloops teams in both Tier One and Tier Two.
The Tier One Thompson Blazers come into the tournament as the defending champions, having defeated Alaska 5-2 in last year’s final to become the fourth local team to win KIBIHT.
There are 12 teams in the top-tier tournament. The Blazers will be joined by teams such as the Pursuit of Excellence (POE) out of Kelowna and Yale Varsity from Abbotsford. The team travelling the farthest is the Balgonie Prairie Storm from Saskatchewan. The top eight teams from the round-robin will advance to the quarter-finals.
In the Tier Two division, the Kamloops Junior Blazers are the lone local team. There are 15 teams that will compete for a championship, including two teams from the United States — the Spokane Junior Chiefs and Arctic Lions from Fairbanks, Alaska. There are also teams coming from Williams Lake, Vernon, Whitehorse, and a Tier Two team from POE.
