KAMLOOPS — For all the different tasks you can now complete online, add another one to the list.

Kamloops RCMP say, starting Wednesday (Nov. 20), local residents will be able to report certain crimes online.

Crimes that qualify for online reporting include:

  • Damage/mischief to property under $5,000
  • Damage/mischief to a vehicle under $5,000
  • Hit and run to an unoccupied vehicle or property
  • Theft of bicycle under $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Theft from vehicle under $5,000
  • Lost property

However, RCMP say there are certain criteria that also must apply in order to complete an online report:

  • No witnesses or suspects
  • No items lost or stolen over $5,000
  • No damages over $5,000
  • No items involving personal identity, firearms, license plates or decals

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says giving the public the ability to make certain reports online will free up “front line personnel, including both police dispatchers and police officers, to respond to more serious crimes or emergencies.”

Supt. Syd Lecky adds the online reporting tool is more convenient for the public and more efficient for the police force.
