Harry Styles Guests on SNL

Harry Styles sang and performed in comedy sketches as the guest host of this weekend’s edition of Saturday Night Live.

Styles hilariously played the human incarnation of a lonely woman’s boyfriend/dog Doug in a pre-recorded video. Just before he is transforms back into a Chihuahua, he tells the woman (played by Aidy Bryant): “Joan, I love you! Love the way you feed me ham. You’re my life, my love, my everything, I love you just the way you am.” He is seen wearing a dog collar, eating trash out of a bathroom garbage can and cowering at the sight of the vacuum cleaner.

In another sketch, Styles and SNL cast member Chris Redd play inappropriate disc jockeys who alternately shock and delight mourners at an elderly woman’s funeral.

In yet another sketch, Styles and Bowen Yang teamed up to destroy Sara Lee’s social media brand, with Styles as a hapless employee turning its Instagram into meditations on lonely threesomes and Yang’s supervisor uploading a photo of himself at a harness party to the account.

Sara Lee’s real Instagram was soon been flooded with some of the fictional captions Styles’ lovelorn social media coordinator “posted,” which included gems like “Feeling really depressed after threesome. What was supposed to be a fantasy ended up more rejection. Must get rid of toxic in community,” and posting “WRECK ME DADDY” and a bunch of eggplant emojis ramming a ghost on Nick Jonas’s account.

Sara Lee’s social media accounts were so inundated with comments they ended up turning them off on Instagram altogether. As of Sunday night, the comments were back on and the bit was ongoing.

Bimbo Bakeries USA, which owns Sara Lee, put out a statement addressing the sketch, noting that the brand didn’t pay for it and doesn’t exactly condone it. “We didn’t participate in creating the skit and its content doesn’t align with Sara Lee Bread’s brand,” they said in a statement. “But, we all know SNL pushes the envelope for laughs and we are taking it in stride.”

During his opening monologue, Harry gave his former One Direction bandmates a shout-out, but seemingly couldn’t remember all of the guys he used to sing with. “I love those guys. They’re my brothers,” Harry said. “Niall, Liam, Louis -” Harry then trailed off jokingly forgetting the last member, Zayn Malik. “And um, Ringo, yeah that’s it,” Harry joked. “Just so grateful Simon Cowell grew us in those test tubes.”

Throughout the show, Styles also took the stage to perform his songs “Watermelon Sugar” and “Lights Up.”

Styles released his new song “Watermelon Sugar” just moments before starting his hosting duties on SNL.

“Watermelon Sugar” is the second single off of Harry’s upcoming sophomore album Fine Line, due out December 13th. Harry released the first single “Lights Up” back in October.

Harry also recently announced his upcoming tour Love on Tour.
