Kamloops temperature expected to climb near record high

KAMLOOPS — According to Environment Canada, it’ll be a warm one for Kamloops today (Nov. 17), but not quite record-breaking temperature worthy.

Meteorologist Jonathan Bau says today’s high of 15 degrees is significantly warmer than usual for this time of year.

“So we have what we call ‘Atmospheric River’ it has subtropical origins, and just by that name you can guess that the air mass that is moving through southern British Columbia today is going to be quite warm.”

Despite the jump in temperature, Bau says it’ll be close, but likely won’t make history.

“The record for today is 17, set in 1895, so that record is safe.”

After today, Bau says the area will start to see regular seasonal temperatures, with tomorrow’s high around 6 degrees.

“For Monday night we’ll get clipped by a system moving south of us and that will bring just a little bit of rain for Monday night with a low of plus 2,” he says, “After that, for the rest of the week we’re looking at sunny and clear skies. Temperature starting around 7 degrees for Tuesday, and cooling off to about plus 3 or plus 2 degrees for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.”
