KAMLOOPS — It’s a sure sign Christmas is on the way. On Sunday evening, the 39th annual Santa Claus Parade is set to take over downtown Kamloops. And this year, there are some changes to downtown Kamloops’s signature event.

Santa’s Elves made one last stop at the Downtown Kamloops headquarters before Sunday’s big parade to iron out the final details. And with a 4:00 pm start time, it’s a bit of departure from previous parades. But according to Downtown Kamloops’ Carl DeSantis, it should be a fun change.

“We’ve made so many different changes this year,” DeSantis told CFJC Today. “We’ve moved it from a Saturday to a Sunday, and most notably, we’re starting it at dusk.”

The changes allow for a new element for the Santa Claus parade, one that would make Clark Griswold proud.

“I’ve challenged all the participants in the parade to have enough lights so we can be seen from outer space,” DeSantis said with a smile. “I know that’s not totally realistic, but this is going to be a game-changing parade.”

The event kicks off at 4:00 pm and will run along Victoria Street from 2nd Avenue to 6th Avenue.
