Updated: Kamloops RCMP investigating after pedestrian struck and killed near TRU

KAMLOOPS – UPDATE: Kamloops RCMP are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle last night (Nov. 15) near the university.

In a release, Sgt. Jeff Bingley says around 5:29 p.m Friday evening, police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of McGill Road and University Drive.

A truck and pedestrian had collided, and the area was shut down for over 6 hours to allow emergency responders to investigate and clear the scene.

A 54-year-old woman was pronounced deceased on scene, while the driver of the truck who had remained on scene was brought to the Kamloops RCMP detachment for further investigation.

EARLIER: Kamloops RCMP say police are investigating a serious motor vehicle incident at McGill Road and University Way.

In a news release, Sgt. Jeff Bingley says the road is partially blocked for westbound traffic on McGill Road from Summit Drive to Dalhousie Drive.

The closure will likely be in place until roughly midnight.

Police are expected to provide an update once the road is reopened.

EARLIER: BC Emergency Health Services says two ambulances were dispatched to McGill Road and University Way around 5:30 p.m.

They are no longer on scene and did not transport anyone to hospital.

ORIGINAL: A pedestrian has reportedly been struck near Thompson Rivers University.

Traffic is backed up near the area of McGill Road and University Way.

Several emergency vehicles could be seen responding to the crash.

It’s not known at this time what may have caused the crash or the extent of injuries.
