KAMLOOPS — Last weekend the professional Canadian Premier Soccer League held its draft of U SPORTS players.

In that draft TRU WolfPack defender Jan Pirrates Glasmacher was drafted.

The Canadian Premier League, the next step below Major League Soccer, played its inaugural season in 2019.

Seven teams across the country, from Victoria to Halifax. Pacific FC, based in Victoria, made Jan Pirrates Glasmacher a first round pick —- the third player taken overall, and the first from Canada West.

“It’s going to be a challenge.” says Glasmacher. “I’m definately going to have to prepare to be physically ready. I’ve played at a high level before so I think I’m ready for it —- it’s just hard work now.”

The Canadian Premier League plays an 18 game schedule from April to October.

Glasmacher will remain on U SPORTS contract.

U SPORTS and the CPL formed a partnership last year so players still in university and want to finish their degree.

“There’s an option to sign a U SPORTS contract, which means I would be coming back in September and still playing for the WolfPack.” says Glasmacher. “Without playing in the CPL affecting my eligibility.”

Glasmacher says his goal right now is to make the team on Pacific FC, and hopefull open some doors for other WolfPack players now and in the future.

“My goal now, short term, is CPL next season” says the WolfPack defender. “I’m not only doing it for me, I’m doing it for the school as well — to bring exposure to TRU, and hopefully have a good season with Pacific.”

A Canada West first team all-star this season Glasmacher was scouted and drafted by Pacific FC head coach James Merriman who says Pacific will have at least one central defender spot open going into training camp.
