Sopotyk out long term, Rockets Novak suspended

KAMLOOPS — The Blazers will be without Kyrell Sopotyk until after Christmas.

The 18-year-old second-year forward was injured during Monday’s game against Kelowna when he was driven into the boards by the Rockets’ Pavel Novak.

Sopotyk suffered a separated shoulder and is expected to miss up to eight weeks.

Late today (Nov. 13), the Western Hockey League suspended Novak for eight games.

Novak will serve the first game this Saturday when Kelowna play host to the Blazers. Just two minutes before he was injured on Monday, Sopotyk set up a goal — splitting the defence, and then while falling, passing to Ryley Appelt.

Sopotyk has three goals and six assists in 16 games this season.
