KAMLOOPS — Valleyview Drive may be shut down overnight after a major gas leak Wednesday (Nov. 13).

An excavator working to help install conduits for electrical cables hit the line at about 11:00 a.m.

Along with Fortis B.C., Kamloops Fire Rescue responded and Asst. Chief Steve Robinson says an initial evacuation has now ended.

“Three homes were initially evacuated by Kamloops Fire Rescue and those residents are now allowed back into their homes,” said Robinson.

Work to repair the line is taking an extended period of time to complete.

“Kamloops Fire Rescue will maintain a presence on scene until cleared by Fortis,” said Robinson.

“Valleyview Drive will be closed for an extended period of time — possibly overnight — between Vicars Road and Cardinal Drive. Local traffic only will be allowed into the area while Fortis completes their repairs. People are asked to use an alternative route and obey all flagging crews at the scene until the repairs are completed.”
