KAMLOOPS — A car smashed into a popular Kamloops North Shore meatery Wednesday (Nov. 13).

During the 2:00 hour Wednesday afternoon, a late model Subaru went careening into Gary’s European Sausage and Deli in the Fortune Shopping Centre.

According to witnesses, the woman driving the car was adjusting when she accidentally hit the accelerator.

“Sitting in my barber chair, I happened to glance out of my window, I saw a vehicle getting ready to park, looked like they were going to correct by reversing,” said Fortune Barber Shop owner James Grega. “I heard a loud rev and the vehicle shot forward out of my line of sight. Half a second later, the loud bang. It was loud enough it shook my entire barber shop.”

No one was injured in the crash. Manager of Gary’s sausage and deli Tammie Hellquist says it was lucky nobody was waiting at the front of the store when it happened.

“We were just happy that we weren’t really busy because we have our chairs that sit here and that’s where people sit and wait,” she said. “So the chairs had gotten thrown across the room.”
