KAMLOOPS — The Blazers started scoring early and kept the lamp lit for much of the night as they rolled over the Medicine Hat Tigers by a 7-3 score.

Ryan Hughes, Connor Zary, and Zane Franklin each scored a pair of goals in the win. Franklin added a couple of assists to lead the way with four points. Kyrell Sopotyk scored the other Blazers goal.

Zary is tied for third place in WHL scoring, with 30 points (12 G, 18 A). Despite owning the longest scoring streak of the season (13 games, 21 points), he says he wants to focus on filling the net a little more often.

“My first 12 games, I only had five goals. That’s not really me,” Zary told reporters after the game. “Coming into the month of November, I just wanted to bear down and focus on putting the puck in the back of the net.”

Jonathan Brinkman, James Hamblin, and Tyler Preziuso tallied for the Tigers.

Dylan Garand earned the victory between the pipes for the Blazers, stopping 37 of 40 shots. Kamloops chased Medicine Hat starter Mads Søgaard after less than nine minutes of play, as they scored three times on their first ten shots. Garmin Bjorklund came in and stopped 26 of the 30 shots he faced.

The Blazers host their BC Division rival Kelowna Rockets on Monday afternoon. Head Coach Shaun Clouston said after the game that he doesn’t want his team to change their approach against the Rockets.

“They’re all big games,” Clouston said. “Obviously, when you’re playing your top divisional rival, they become more emotional, but the process is the same. We’ve gotta get some rest tomorrow… then that period before the game, we’ve gotta get in a really good spot where we’re focused and ready to go.”
