Telkwa couple turns $20 Lotto Max win into $20 million

KAMLOOPS — A couple from Telkwa, near Smithers, made the trek down to Kamloops Friday.

But for Ken and Susan Salter, the trip wasn’t to visit the B.C. Wildlife Park or stock up on groceries at Costco.

The Salters had another important task in Kamloops: picking up a $20 million cheque at BCLC headquarters.

The couple matched their usual numbers to those that came up in October 29 Lotto Max draw.

In a BCLC news release, Ken Salter says he doesn’t usually play on Tuesdays, but decided to last week after winning $20 in the previous Friday’s draw.

That $20 turned into $20 million.

Susan didn’t believe Ken at first, and thought something was horribly wrong when he called her and she heard dead silence on the other end of the line.

“But then he whispered really quietly, ‘We just won $20-million dollars’, and then I thought he was joking,” said Susan.

The longtime Telkwa residents have no plans to leave the village, but instead plan to build their dream house on their current property.
