Storm system predicted to slam north-central B.C. should skip Kamloops, Cariboo

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says a storm system predicted to slam the north-central part of the province shouldn’t have much impact on the Cariboo and areas closer to Kamloops.

Freezing rain warnings have been issued for the Bulkley Valley and North Coast areas, with a winter storm watch in effect for the Peace River region.

But Forecaster Doug Lundquist says that system will likely peter out before moving further south.

“It’s looking like the system is going further north. It’s going to affect mostly the northern parts of the Central Interior – the southwest Interior will be largely spared,” said Lundquist.

“The only question I have in my head is, when the fronts that are associated with the system that’s affecting the North reach the South on the weekend, if there will be any rain at all left in them,” he continued.

“I know that we published rain in the forecast, some rain and showers for the weekend, but I’m not convinced that we’ll see much at all, to tell you the truth. If we do get any snow over the high terrain, it might not amount to much.”

Lundquist notes temperatures should be mild enough that, even if the Kamloops area does receive precipitation over the weekend, it will fall as rain.
