KAMLOOPS — Police are releasing more information about a fatal hit-and-run in downtown Kamloops this weekend — and are asking for one witness, in particular, to come forward.

Early Sunday morning (Nov. 3), Kamloops RCMP were called to a serious crash at the intersection of Battle Street and First Avenue.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP say the investigation has revealed that a truck was speeding, ran a stop sign, and hit a car that was travelling on First Avenue.

Four people were in the car, and two of those people have died. One suffered critical injuries and remains in hospital. The fourth person was injured but the injuries are less serious.

Police say the driver of the truck fled the scene.

Kamloops RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit is leading the investigation, and police have identified the alleged driver.

Witnesses at the scene describe a woman who wasn’t involved in the crash but was on scene before emergency vehicles arrived.

“Investigators would like to speak with this woman but she has not yet been identified,” police say in the news release.

The woman is described as:

  • 5’7″ tall
  • 140 to 150 lbs.
  • Brown hair in a ponytail
  • Dark clothing
  • Walking alone northbound on First Avenue.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay says in the release:

“If this is you, or you know who this person is, please contact the Kamloops RCMP. We are interested in speaking with everyone who was present at the collision before emergency crews arrived. This is a routine step in ensuring that all possible witnesses are spoken to as soon after the event as possible.

“Investigations such as this are taken very seriously and conducted very thoroughly. There are several technical aspects to the investigation which are forensic in nature. All of these lengthy processes must be completed before we can review our evidence or consider recommending criminal charges.”

Police say several businesses and residents have come forward to provide information and security video.

“Thank you very much for your contributions towards making Kamloops a safe community where these senseless tragedies are not tolerated,” police say in the release.

If you were driving in the following areas between 1:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. and have dash-cam footage, investigators would like to see the recordings.

The areas are:

  • Victoria Street (downtown core)
  • Fourth Avenue north of Victoria Street
  • Battle Street between Fifth Avenue and Lee Road
  • All residential streets around the Guerin Creek area.

Call Kamloops RCMP if you believe you may have video from the areas during those times.

“We do not expect to be in a position to release any further information on this investigation until the full investigative process is completed.”

Meantime, CFJC has learned the identities of the two men killed in the crash. They were identified by friends and family on social media.

They are Feyisola Adebowale and Daniel Okocha.
