KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say they have released the registered owner of a pickup truck involved in a fatal collision Sunday morning (Nov. 3) in downtown Kamloops.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the driver has not been charged “at this time.”

The collision took place early Sunday morning at the intersection of Battle Street and First Avenue.

Shelkie says officers are still trying to determine who was driving the pickup when it collided with a car with four occupants — all international students or alumni from Thompson Rivers University.

Two of the occupants of the car were killed, and RCMP identify them as men in their 20s.

Shelkie says the truck was not reported stolen. She notes the car had been traveling on First Avenue at the time of the crash, and the pickup up truck was driving along Battle Street.

In addition to several RCMP units, the BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.

RCMP would still like any witnesses to the crash to call them at (250) 828-3000.
