KAMLOOPS — A busy month of October has the Kamloops building sector approaching the quarter-billion-dollar mark in construction value for the year.

According to new numbers from the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division, October’s construction total came in just a few dollars shy of exactly $37 million.

That’s a 54 per cent jump from the same month in 2018.

Much of last month’s value came in the institutional category, with three permits totaling $11.3 million.

October also saw permits for 111 new residential issued, the vast majority in the form of multi-family projects.

The year-to-date total for construction value in Kamloops is $246.7 million with two months remaining. That’s 17 per cent higher than at the same point last year.

Kamloops set new building permit records in both 2017 and 2018, and is on pace to do so again in 2019.
