KAMLOOPS — Renovations are underway at Happyvale Elementary, where Twin Rivers Education and Four Directions students are expected to move in by the end of November.

School District 73’s Director of Facilities Art McDonald says work has been done on the school’s flooring and wiring, and it has received a fresh coat of paint.

Today (Oct.30), the first of five portables was installed on the school grounds to accommodate the incoming students.

“We’ll be moving them hopefully within the month,” McDonald said. “We’ll get them out of Norkam and get Norkam back to its normal self.”

TREC students were moved from George Hilliard to Norkam after a fire destroyed Parkcrest Elementary and those students were moved into the former Twin Rivers Education Centre.

“We had to do a little bit of work at George Hilliard to accommodate the Parkcrest students,” McDonald said, “and we had to do a little bit of temporary work over at Norkam for the Twin Rivers Education students that were put there temporarily, but the bulk of it’s now focused here.”
